TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing school break with your families and you are ready for another school term!

I would like to discuss a few changes about recording our weekly homework tasks on SEQTA (our reporting software).

SEQTA CONTINUOUS REPORTING SYSTEM

At Sirius College Primary we have been developing a new reporting system during 2019.

One strand of this new development is the concept of CONTINUOUS REPORTING.

‘CONTINUOUS REPORTING’ is where we endeavour to keep parents up to date with some of their child’s progress throughout the term in areas where this is possible.

WEEKLY Spelling Scores are recorded on SEQTA by the teachers as timely as possible after the students’ tests have been corrected.

In Upper Primary, Mental Maths (JEMM and EMM) scores are recorded THROUGHOUT THE TERM as soon as they are available.

From the beginning of Term 3 we will also be continuously reporting the following:

  1. English Homework Booklet Weekly Tasks.
  2. English Online Reading Eggs Weekly Tasks.
  3. Home Reading and Home Reading Journals.
  4. Maths Homework Booklet Weekly Tasks.
  5. Maths Online Mathletics Tasks.

ALL OF THE ABOVE ITEMS ARE RECORDED AS A MARK 0-1-2.

Completion of all tasks is 2.

Partially completed is 1.

No attempt is 0.

HOME READING AND HOME READING JOURNALS

Throughout the primary school, children are expected to read at least four to five times per week at home. When a book is finished, the child needs to let their teacher know and they will be able to change their book.

When your child reads at home, the expectation is that they read aloud and discuss the book with an adult and that the adult signs the home reading record book to acknowledge that the book has been read. It is acceptable for fluent readers to read independently. It is advised that a discussion about the book happens with an adult to support their understanding.

Teachers will look at the Reading Journal each week. They will be checked for the students’ reading, the recording of their reading and that they have had them signed by an adult at home. This will be recorded by the teachers on SEQTA using a 0-1-2 scale. Completion of all tasks is 2. Partially completed is 1. No attempt is 0.

If you have any questions about the system, please do not hesitate to book an appointment with your child’s teacher.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes!
Mrs. Amninder Malhi
